Leva Energy named CleanTech Open Semifinalist

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 15, 2010 – Leva Energy, Inc. (www.levaenergy.com), a leader in highly reliable, cost-effective Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems, was named a semifinalist today for the California region of the 2010 CleanTech Open competition (www.cleantechopen.com).

The Cleantech Open is the world’s largest clean-technology business competition. Since December 2009, 12 alumni companies from the competition have secured funding, totaling more than $65 million. Leva Energy will compete in the Energy Efficiency category. National finalists will be named on November 17, 2010 at the Cleantech Open Awards Gala.

“Leva Energy is thrilled to have the opportunity to compete in the world’s largest clean-technology business competition,” said Franco Castaldini, President and Co-Founder of Leva Energy, Inc. “The competition will provide Leva a forum to discuss, learn and evangelize new energy efficiency ideas.”

About Leva Energy

Leva Energy, Inc. is commercializing a breakthrough Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system called a Power Burner which embeds a highly reliable turbine into a low-emissions burner. In addition to converting natural gas to heat like legacy burners, the Power Burner generates electricity at 75% less than the cost of average domestic utility rates. It attaches to thermal equipment like boilers, absorption chillers, furnaces, process heaters, and ovens by replacing their legacy burner. This unique approach to CHP recovers 100% of waste heat and lowers the investment cost to less than $1,000/kW for a Power Burner. With it, customers will achieve a 1-2 year payback finally making distributed generation (DG) economically viable for the industrial and commercial markets.

Leva Energy’s founders selected by Department of Energy (DOE) and California Energy Commission (CEC) to advance Power Burner’s Development

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 10, 2010 – Leva Energy, Inc. (www.levaenergy.com ), a leader in highly reliable, cost-effective Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems, announced today that its founders have received notice of grant awards by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the California Energy Commission (CEC) totaling $3.2 million. The funding will accelerate the development of Leva Energy’s Power Burner and build upon an already successful deployment of an earlier prototype installed at Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) in San Jose, California.

The goal of the DOE program is to develop, test and deploy a power-generating burner using a 100-killowatt (kW) gas turbine integrated with an ultra low-emissions burner. The new system will be designed to meet the most stringent emissions standards of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and NOx levels less than 9 ppm, making it usable anywhere in the world. The system will replace a conventional burner and serve as another demonstration test case for Leva Energy.

Notification of the award was given to CMCE, Inc. Carlo Castaldini, who is the President and Owner of CMCE, Inc., is also a co-founder and director of Leva Energy, Inc. The award is part of a CHP Technology Development and Demonstration program managed by the DOE’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office. The DOE notified six companies out of the 107 that applied for the funding opportunity.

“We are honored that the U.S. Department of Energy notified CMCE, Inc. with this award as it will accelerate the commercialization of Leva Energy’s groundbreaking CHP technology,” said Mr. Castaldini. “Our goal at Leva Energy is to commercialize the technological advancements we make at CMCE, Inc. with an aim to be the market’s leading supplier of cost-effective and highly reliable CHP systems.”

The CEC award will cover similar goals, but specifically target firetube boilers that serve as an ideal footprint for Leva Energy’s Power Burner. The CEC notified Altex Technologies Corporation of the award. Dr. John T. Kelly, President, and Dr. Mehdi Namazian, Vice President, serve as the principals of Altex Technologies and are also co-founders and directors of Leva Energy. Much like CMCE, Inc., Altex Technologies will develop, test and deploy a power-generating burner with the objective of advancing the commercialization of Leva Energy’s Power Burner.

“Altex Technologies is committed to innovating novel CHP systems that are built cost-effectively to reliably product power and recover heat energy to ensure broad-based market acceptance,” said Dr. Kelly. “The funding from the CEC will help Altex achieve this goal and help Leva Energy become the catalyst for commercializing CHP systems that have an immediate impact on the market.”

These awards are subject to completion and execution of contracts and sub-contracts with the various parties involved in carrying these demonstrations.
